What is climate neutrality?

CO2focus define climate neutrality according to the guidelines and principles suggested by UN. In 2008, UN published the report "Kick the Habit – A UN guide to Climate Neutrality". In this report UN proposes a stepwise approach towards climate neutrality. CO2focus supports the UNEPs Climate Neutral Network and our clients using this model are qualified to become members (see link http://www.unep.org/climateneutral/ ).

Co2focus uses the guidelines and methodology recommended in UN report "Kick the Habit - A UN guide to climate neutrality", 2008

The model above is used specifically for climate neutrality for corporations or organizations. When talking about climate neutrality, it´s important to divide between a climate neutral organisation, a climate neutral activity or a climate neutral product. In the latter case it is important to take into account the whole life cycle perspective of a product. In order to claim climate neutrality for a specific product you need to have a Life Cycle Assessment as a basis and you will have to offset the total emissions in CO2 equivalents for the whole value chain of you product.

As a methodology for calculating a carbon footprint related to a corporation or an activity we use the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), developed by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. As for specific products and climate neutrality we use the methodology described in the British Standard PAS 2050, for Life Cycle Assessments (see link http://www.bsi-global.com/en/Standards-and-Publications/How-we-can-help-you/Professional-Standards-Service/PAS-2050/ ).
